Before you open an account or move money, it helps to know what the process actually involves. This page walks through the practical steps, the documents you will need, and the limits that apply along the way.

How Onboarding Works at Finwise

Step 1: ApplicationYou complete a short online form with your personal details, employment information, and financial situation. This takes about ten minutes and does not require a credit check.

Step 2: Identity VerificationWe confirm your identity using a government-issued ID and a proof of address dated within the last three months. The review usually takes one to two business days.

Step 3: Risk AssessmentA short questionnaire determines your investment experience, time horizon, and tolerance for market swings. Your answers shape the suggested portfolio range, not a binding recommendation.

Step 4: FundingYou link a bank account or transfer funds electronically. The first deposit must clear before any trades are placed, which typically takes two to four business days.

Step 5: Account ReviewA member of our advisory team reviews your file, confirms the selected strategy, and schedules a follow-up call within five business days to answer questions.

Step 6: Ongoing AccessOnce active, you can view statements, update your details, and adjust your contribution schedule through the client portal. Changes to your risk profile require a fresh assessment.

How onboarding actually works

A step-by-step look at what happens after you request a financial plan, from the first call to the first report.

Finwise onboarding

Week 1 — Fact find

We start with a 30-minute call to understand your income, expenses, debts, and what you want the money to do. You will receive a short questionnaire beforehand, so the call stays focused on decisions, not data entry.

Week 2 — Data review

Once we have your statements and tax figures, we map your cash flow and existing investments. This is where we spot gaps: high fees, overlapping funds, or missing emergency cover. You get a plain-language summary before any recommendations are made.

Week 3 — Strategy draft

You receive a written plan with specific numbers: how much to set aside monthly, which accounts to use first, and what to sell or keep. The draft includes a risk check, so you can see how your portfolio would behave in a downturn.

Week 4 — Review and adjust

We go through the draft together, line by line. You can push back on assumptions, change the time horizon, or ask for a different mix of assets. Nothing is locked until you confirm it matches your situation.

Week 5 — Implementation list

You get a clear action list: which forms to sign, which accounts to open, and which transfers to make. We stay on the call while you complete the first steps, so you are never stuck on a form or a login page.

Month 2 — First check-in

After the accounts are live, we review the first statements together. This is a practical session: we confirm the automatic contributions are running, check that dividends are reinvested, and adjust if your pay or expenses changed.

How Onboarding Works

A clear sequence from your first inquiry to a working plan. Each step has a defined output, so you always know what happens next and what we need from you.

Step 01

Initial Inquiry

You submit a short form or email describing your situation: current savings, goals, and any documents you already have. No commitment required at this stage.

Step 02

Document Review

We review your statements, pension details, and tax records. This takes about two business days. You receive a summary of what we found and what is missing.

Step 03

Strategy Session

A 45-minute call where we discuss your risk tolerance, time horizon, and income needs. You leave with a clear picture of your options and trade-offs.

Step 04

Written Plan

Within five business days, you receive a written plan with specific fund choices, contribution amounts, and rebalancing rules. Everything is explained in plain language.

Step 05

Implementation

We help you set up accounts, transfer funds, and place initial orders. You keep full control of every transaction and receive confirmation for each step.

Step 06

Quarterly Check-Ins

Every three months we review your portfolio, compare it against benchmarks, and adjust if your situation changed. You can skip a session if nothing has shifted.

The whole process typically takes three to four weeks from first contact to a fully funded portfolio. If you need a faster timeline, mention it during the initial inquiry and we will adjust the schedule.
